i wanted to confirm that do we have to submit the two posters, today by 6pm (IST), or do we have to submit only the 2 page(A4) preliminary design by today evening?
what are the deadlines for each of these?
please try and confirm
Wendy Daniell posted on Tuesday, August 03, 2010 - 07:17 am
You can find the 2 deadlines for the 2 submissions on your ideas (both 2 pages of A4 skeches, notes and questions) and the deadline for the 2 poster submissions at

http://www.ideers.bris.ac.uk/Discussion/messages/11/1202.html?1273508853

You first submission today by 6.00 p.m. (IST) is just the 2 A4 pages on your preliminary ideas.

Sir,
We have the following doubts.
1. regarding the architectural poster, should the views contain details pertaining to landscaping, parking facility etc..
2. How many floors should the hospital consists of?
3. Should the hospital building be designed as a single building, or can we design it with various blocks within the given 25mx25m area
Wendy Daniell posted on Sunday, August 08, 2010 - 07:30 pm
Hello

My answers to your questions are:
1. For the architectural poster we are interested mainly in the external appearance of your building. We don't need any details on landscaping, parking facilities etc, but to make your acrhitectural image more attrcative you can provide a rough idea of what surrounding features could look like.
2. The minimum number of storeys for the real hospital building is 9. However in your model building you will have 1 storey representing 3 storeys in the real building. To understand this better you need to read Section1 of the "Specification for the model building"
3.The hospital must be designed as one building.
 Narayanan T posted on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - 09:39 am
sir , is the minimum number of floor plates in the real building is 4 including the ground floor?
Adam Crewe posted on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - 01:14 pm
The real building must have a minimum of 9 storeys (i.e. 10 floors including the ground floor). However for the model you will only be building every 3rd floor so the model will have 3 storeys (i.e. 4 floors including the ground floor).

See figure 1 in

http://www.ideers.bris.ac.uk/dynamicdesigns/ModelSpecBrief_India_EN.pdf

for a picture of this.

Does the structural poster requires just a blue print of our model, containing all the floor plan and elevation, also the structural modification?
Wendy Daniell posted on Monday, August 16, 2010 - 12:56 pm
The specification for the structural poster is in section 3.1 of the Stage 1 Brief.

For the drawings of your model, we need sufficient information to understand the structure of your model and whether you have adhered to the rules.

I don't know what you mean by "the structural modification" but we only want drawings of your final design, not your first ideas.

i wanted to confirm that should both the posters have the same layout/ texture/ formatting.. or could they be different as well?
Adam Crewe posted on Thursday, August 19, 2010 - 05:00 pm
The posters can be in any style you want as long as they contain all the required information. I suspect they that they would probably look more professional if the styles were consistent. However I can also imagine cases where it might be appropriate to change styles. I would suggest you do whatever you think will present your designs best.
Ahmad Wani posted on Friday, August 20, 2010 - 11:12 am
in what format are we supposed to submit the posters? (like .pdf , .jpg, .doc, etc )
Wendy Daniell posted on Friday, August 20, 2010 - 01:06 pm
The answer to your question is in the Stage 1 Brief Section 3.3 on the "Format for posters".

Are we supposed to put the different sections that we have calculated and designed for the beams, columns and slabs in the poster?? what about the design calculations??
Wendy Daniell posted on Saturday, August 21, 2010 - 02:06 pm
We are not looking for design calculations or for the sizes of the structural elements in the real building. In Poster 1 “The Structure of the Model Building”, we are looking for sufficient information on your model:
1. though dimensions, to see whether you have understood the rules for the structure of the model; and
2.through words, to see the reasons why you have decided on your selected structural layout.

Remember, that you are designing a poster and that a poster need to be attractive and display only sufficient information to get your main points across.

No problem, it is just too many people trying to use the website at once with large files. Just try to get the posters uploaded as soon as you can. We will accept slightly late entries (just not very late ones).
