How can we test a trial model if we don't have a shaking-table?

It is worth making and testing a trial model even if you don't have a shaking-table for 2 reasons:
1. First you will be able to establish whether you will be able to complete construction of your design in the time allowed on the day of the final.
2. You can at least subject your model to vertical, lateral and torsional loading to see how it responds. You will be surprised how flexible your model becomes once you have applied the required load. If your model or some of its elements deflect significantly when you only apply the forces by hand then it will deflect significantly more on the shaking-table.

It is also worth building and testing sections of your model design.
