Testing for Vertical Loading

Remember ! Read the Vertical Loading Rules before testing your model.

  1. Calculate the total mass required for each floor of your model. It should be equal to the total mass of the steel blocks required for that floor.
    ( Work it Out )

  2. Add the required mass to each floor of your model. You can use anything which has the correct mass. In the photograph, some round weights from the EERC laboratory were used.

  3. Make sure every floor is loaded. You do not have to load the ground floor if it is directly on the MDF base.

  4. Leave the model standing for 15 minutes to check that it does not collapse under the vertical load.
