Bridges

Clifton Suspension Bridge at Night
(Where is it?)

The way bridges vibrate in the wind and during earthquakes have been researched at the EERC.

You may think that engineers know everything about designing bridges, as so many have been constructed and stood up for years. However, bridge design is getting more adventurous using new unusual features and longer spans. So, more research is needed to find out how these structures vibrate under different loading conditions. That includes traffic and people moving across the bridge, as well as earthquakes and wind.

Find out about some of the work the EERC have done.
