Concrete Framed Buildings with Walls
European Building Standards, called "Eurocodes",
have been developed for the design of earthquake resistant
buildings in Europe. They give recommendations and rules for
the design of different types of buildings.

The model of 3 storey
building shown in the picture was designed using a Eurocode.
It has a structural frame constructed
from reinforced concrete with brick
infill walls. The walls help strengthen
the building against earthquakes.
The model was tested on the shaking-table
for simulated earthquakes to check that the Eurocode design
rules work.
