Fire Station in Armenia

This was the only fire station in Armenia. It was constructed from a structural frame of reinforced concrete with brick walls between the columns and beams.

The building collapsed destroying all the fire trucks and killing many of the firemen. Although there was only one fire caused by the earthquake, the fire service would have been needed to help with other emergency operations.

It is important that fire stations and other emergency service centres are made to be earthquake resistant, so that vehicles and personnel are available to help after an earthquake.
