School in Kobe

( See Close Up )

This school in Kobe was constructed from reinforced concrete. It sits at the top of a slope which runs down to a river on its left.

The earthquake caused the soil of the slope to slide downwards towards the river, pulling the foundation of the school building with it. This movement caused a complete collapse of the ground floor at one end of the building.
